If you’re an equestrian, you know horse riding is a sport that requires lots of equipment and care products. Not only do you need equipment for yourself, but your horse as well. There are saddles, headgear, breastplates, spurs, reins, grooming tools, boots and much more. For the real enthusiasts, all this equipment needs to be stored and easily transportable.
Tack trunks are a popular way to store and organize equipment. If traveling to shows, tack trunks are essential for hauling gear. Aluminium tack trunks are a popular choice for this purpose because they are relatively lightweight, easy to transport. However, aluminium is easily scratched so loading tons of gear will eventually leave marks on the trunk.
Resine Solution, the official PAXCON applicator for the Centre-Val de Loire, France, was commissioned to PAXCON an aluminium horse riding trunk to prevent damage from impact, abrasion, and weather exposure. PAXCON is a spray-applied polyurea that adheres to a substrate using a high-pressure, high-temperature system. Once the coating is applied, it dries within seconds and forms a durable, watertight membrane able to resist abrasion and weather elements.
To properly apply the PAXCON coating, applicators sandblasted the exterior and interior of the aluminium shell, cleaned, and then primed all sides with a proprietary XPM primer. Once the primer cured, applicators sprayed a 3 mm thick layer of PAXCON XS-100 to the trunk exterior for added scratch and weather resistance. A 1-2 mm thick layer of PAXCON was applied to the interior of the trunk as well.
Once the heavy-duty PAXCON XS-100 application encapsulated the trunk, applicators added a UV-stable PAXCON topcoat in a custom green colour. The UV topcoat will provide a long-lasting colour stable finish, no fading from sun damage. Lastly, once the final layer cured, the team reassembled the trunk.
The final result was a durable horse riding truck finished in company colours.
